The Importance of Soundtrack: the adventures of Hans and his Oscars

Hey guys, here we are again! We are actually really sad, for having this as our last post being corrected, but we just thought that you maybe are tired of film reviews, so we are going to be talking about cinema, of course, but instead of focusing on a movie, we are going to focus on one of its most important “parts”: SOUNDTRACK!
Yeah, we know, doing our last post about Music on a blog about Movies, but it does make all the sense!
If you pay attention, you’ll see that behind all of the best movies that were ever made, there is always a really nice soundtrack giving the scene the right tone, marking its rhythm or just making us feel anxious because there is something coming out of the blue (BOOM! Then the little girl with the knife appears behind you! Oh wait, that’s not a knife, that’s just a toy! But the moment you realize it, a creepy dude dressed like a ninja just jumps to you like a Justin Bieber, oh wait, I spelled it the wrong way: Justin Bieber, dressed like a dude, jumps to you like a creepy ninja! SURPRISE MOTHERF#$%&).
Ok, let’s go right to the point!
The fact is: being the two of us addicted for cheap music (remember you are reading the texts of a DJ and a Guy that heard “The Shire theme” for 10 hours in a row) and we really needed an excuse to bring back the themes of older posts.
When talking about the technic part of a movie, you can easily identify some aspects such as the light, the acting, the SOUNDTRACK, the plans, etc. But it is not that easy to identify the importance of any of these aspects in particular on the whole movie context. When we are talking about soundtracks, several names come to our minds: Hans Zimmer (the genius mind behind the soundtrack of the best movies – Yup, we’re talking about The Gladiator, Lion King, The Peacemaker, The Last Samurai, Inception, etc.), Nino Rota (the guy who wrote the scores for The Godfather and for one of the old versions of Romeo & Juliet), Howard Shore (for words: LOOORD OF THE RIIIIIIIINGS!), Madd Rod (the guy who composed a beautiful 8 seconds masterpiece for Ivy), etc.
All of these names, especially the last one, deserve some recognition they are not always given, but without them none of this movies would have the impact they had.
From all we listed, if we had to pick our favorite, it would certainly be Zimmer, that guy composes the soundtrack for like 3/4 movies a year! He managed to win so many prizes that he switched is pillow for an Oscar, is toothbrush for another Oscar, and he doesn’t watch TV at home, he just makes himself auto-guided tours through his own museum of awards. We don’t want to give you false information, but we also heard he drinks his coffee using his Oscar, but it looks kind of impossible so it is better for you not to believe in this last fact.

(someone doesn't look that happy...)
Another proof that shows the importance of soundtrack is the following: some movies’ main themes have much more fame than the movies themselves, for instance, the “duel” track on The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, the main theme of Saturday Night Fever (Ah! Ah! Ah! Ah! Stayin’ Alive! Stayin’ Alive), and we could carry on listing more cases, but why leaving you with such a long goodbye?
So, yeah, let’s give you a short goodbye!
Good bye…

Nooo, we can’t leave like this! Stop crying! We love you readers! And we hope we’ll see you here if we ever post here again! We really enjoyed writing this blog, and even though we don’t like the exact same movies, we found it really interesting to do this partnership!
We hope you have enjoyed it,
BIG HUG,
THE POPCORNER TEAM
António Valente & Rodrigo Pinheiro

P.S: Sorry Henry Mancini, we only remembered your name now, but we like you too (please don't send us a plague from up there)!

INCEPTION, the other love of Antonio

Hello guys!! Another week, and here we are again, we’re sad to say that our third term is coming to an end… But, don’t start crying! Although we were kind of forced to create a blog, we really enjoyed writing it… Therefore, there might be a possibility of not ending with this blog.
Moving on, this isn’t the last post, so cheer up mates. Today’s post will finally be about one of Antonio’s favourite movies, INCEPTION!!!! Yeah, Inception… How to start…
Antonio already saw this movie like a thousand times, and although Rodrigo never saw it, we came to an agreement, and here it is, our final choice.

This film starts in Cobb’s mind, that’s right, in his mind!! Yap, this film is about dreams, and the sharing of those. Cobb [our main character, played by a very famous and prizewinning actor, Leonardo DiCaprio, ladies, calm down!] used to work for a company where he had to make industrial espionage through dreams. Although you can’t really die while in a dream, you can still feel all the pain.
We find our main character and his partner, Arthur (but not Conan Doyle), spying on Saito, a powerful Japanese businessman and despite the skill that Cobb and Arthur have in dream sharing, Saito soon finds out that he’s in a dream and they fail what they wanted to do. After that they plan how to run away from Cobol Engineering, the company that ordered the extraction [stealing stuff in the dream]. But Saito finds them and explains that it was all a test and he wants to hire both Cobb and a team Cobb builds to make a job for him. Although Cobb strongly denies any possibility of accepting the job, Saito persuades him (Cobb is considered guilty on his wife’s death, and he can’t see his children again) by saying he can make Cobb see his children again.

All of this story is centered in Robert Fischer’s mind, because Cobb’s team wants to change his opinion about his father, Maurice Fischer, and implement the idea that he wants to dissolve his father’s empire, when Maurice dies. So that Saito can have the monopoly of energy commercialization. At first they thought that inception was impossible, but Cobb sadly proves them that it is possible, because he had already done it, to Mal… His wife… [This guy looks like a maniac that tests on his loved ones, just for the sake of it. Girls run while you can, this is not "your" Leonardo.]

When they enter in Fischer’s mind, they are needed to go deeper, because when you want to make an inception you need to have at least 3 layers of dreams, a dream within a dream, within a dream… I hope this sounds as awesome for you as it sounds for me. In the first layer they found that Fischer has had some training against extractors, and his subconscious is prepared to defend him. Therefore they put everyone in a van, drove by Yusuf, their chemist, the worst driver in History… And in that van they go to another layer, this time it’s Arthur’s dream, they end up in a hotel, where they try a strategy that consists on turning the person against his own subconscious. Soon they understand that 2 layers aren’t enough, and go to another one, this time Eames’ dream [Eames is the forger that plays a familiar face recognized by Fischer, to make him say secrets and stuff he would only say to familiar people… So, if you ever dream about your father DON’T TELL HIM WHERE YOU KEEP THOSE MAGAZINES HIDDEN] in a fortress where they think they will find the answer that will make Fischer dissolve his future empire.

Dreams only end, or when the time ends, or when you feel like falling or dying, that has of “kick” and through the three layers of dreams, they synchronized a kick, that will make them wake up from each dream, to another one, until they get to Yusuf’s van again, in the first layer, the first kick is in the hotel where Arthur blows up stuff and makes them wake up in the third layer, and the other one is when Yusuf drives off of a bridge and simulates falling, that makes them wake up from Arthur’s dream. Although this “worked out well” Cobb, Ariadne, Saito and Fischer end up in the limbo, soon Ariadne and Fischer get back on the third layer at the time of the kick, and Cobb and Saito are left in the limbo, where they only meet again a lot of years after, as we can see in the beginning of the film!! [That’s why this is so awesome, the beginning is already the limbo, it makes Antonio think if this movie is all a dream of Cobb, while in the limbo, or if it ends on a dream and they never get back]
Cobb and Saito finally leave the limbo and Cobb can see his children again, this all happened because Cobb planted the idea that the world he and Mal were living in wasn’t real in Mal’s mind, so when they come back to reality, she still thinks she’s in a dream, and kills herself, seeing this as the only way of seeing their “true children” again.

Although I really like this film (Antonio talking) I can’t decide if it ends on reality or in a dream, but I bet on a dream, not only because the totem that Cobb uses to prove himself he’s in the real world doesn’t give us a straight answer in the end, but also because during all this time, his children didn’t age a day, and that’s a bit odd, and makes us think, if we are not in a dream of Cobb since the beginning of the film…
I gave it a score of 9,898904309234, in scale from 0 to 10, obviously it is one of my favourite movies.

This time we leave you guys with a quote from the movie that Antonio truly loves:

You're waiting for a train, a train that will take you far away. You know where you hope this train will take you, but you don't know for sure. But it doesn't matter. Because we’ll be together!

Returning to Middle-Earth

First [let me take a selfie!], play this awesome song:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=chLZQtCold8

Now you can start reading!
Hi guys, another week has passed! And we are very happy to announce that today’s movie is the awesome, the outstanding, the WEFOIWEJFKFKEOFKAOWKR, The Lord of the Rings (LOTR) and The Fellowship of the Ring!!! [We hope that you are as excited as we are, which means: TOO EXCITED!!!!!*]
Well since António first watched this film, he fell in love, not only with the universe but with everything…  LOTR trilogy soon became António’s favourite films, with the Return of the King taking the first position.
The Fellowship of the Ring is the movie that brings anyone who likes Tolkien’s universe to tears, the first minute of The Shire with the description of it, and with that soft background music, makes any grown man or woman weep.
This film starts with Galadriel describing Middle-Earth and explaining how on earth the ONE RING disappeared from Isildur’s possession, and ended up with Bilbo Baggins!

And then, we are taken to The Shire, where Bilbo Baggins’s birthday party is being celebrated, but at the middle of the party, he just becomes invisible, due to the ring, and is followed by Gandalf an old giant beardy guy that happens to be his friend, whom wisdom and knowledge makes him understand that the ring might be more than a mere ring of power.
He ends up being right, because this ring is the one forged by Sauron in the fires of Mount Doom, which power is unbearable and may destroy the world if it falls on the wrong hands.
Since this ring may only be destroyed in the same place it was forged, a journey to take the ring to Mordor begins.
Sam, Pippin and Merry leave The Shire following Frodo, the ring bearer, firstly they headed to Bree, where Gandalf would be waiting for them, but Gandalf was betrayed by Saruman, the head of Gandalf’s order, therefore the most powerful of them, so he easily wins the duel versus Gandalf, and locks up in a tower (just to troll him, ‘cause wizards are afraid of heights!).

Frodo and the Hobbits are approached by a man, with the creepy name of Strider, who escorts them to Rivendell, where the elves will give them advices.
In the house of Elrond (the kind of James Bond of the Elves) a meeting to decide what to do with the ring is made, and the fellowship of the ring is created, composed by a dwarf – Gimli, an elf – Legolas, two men – Aragorn and Boromir, a wizard – Gandalf, and four hobbits – Peregrin Took, Meriadoc Brandybuck , Samwise Gamgee and Frodo Baggins.
They face some dangers such as the fight against the Balrog of Mordor, in Moria, where Gandalf “died”, and all the hurdles caused by Saruman, even though Boromir starts to be persuaded by the ring, and tries to steal it from Frodo, he makes it up by trying to save merry and pippin from a bunch of Uruk-hais, with the cost of his life.
In the end Frodo and Sam run away from the rest of the Fellowship, going in their way to Mordor, while Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli start chasing the pack of Uruk-hais who abducted Pippin and Merry.
This film ends with a song called “The breaking of the fellowship”, which you should listen to.
We obviously love this movie, and Antonio already watched it more than 15 times [no joke, and extended version of course], so we give it a 9,982382434923 in a scale that goes from 0 to 10.
See you later when Gandalf returns from his death [WE KNOW YOU LOVE OUR SPOILERS!!!]!
    XOXO,
GANDALF's GIRL (actually she's like 3000 years old...)

Extremely long but interesting post - The Imitation Game

Hey guys!
Great news for you: The Popcorner is BACK! (Please take the next 5 seconds to fake some excitement for us)
So because of these great news, we decided not only to make a film review, but also to let you know that this term's themes are of our choice. You know what that means?! Lord of the rings and Hobbit in every single post!!! [Ok, maybe we got a little too excited, let's calm down] We promise that we'll bring you variety.
So first of all, we would like to explain to you how we chose the movie for today:
“Let’s do it about Inception”, said António.
Naa, I haven’t seen it, why don’t we go for Samba”, said Rodrigo.
“I have seen the trailer and it didn’t excite me at all”
“Oh, then, what about making about Benedict Cumberbatch (your idol)? Let’s do it about The Imitation Game
“Ok!”
So, yeah, here we are talking about The Imitation Game, a wonderful movie that tells the story of a genius, Alan Turing, whose life got destroyed because of the retrograde minds coexisting in the late 40s/50s (sadly, still prevailing on our days).
For those who never heard about Alan Turing, you only need to know that he was a super clever man, whose ability to solve puzzles enabled an incredible shortening of WWII!
But now here comes the down side of his story: how would the British Government reward such contribution and heroism?
- By blocking his path on computer development;
- By condemning him to estrogen-based therapies that not only made him get mad and commit suicide, but also made his breasts grow (as if he was a woman), humiliating him;
Now you are asking yourselves: “WHY????  IS THE WORLD MAD??”. And yes, we can tell you why: all of this happened because he was an homosexual and by that time, homosexuality was seen as a disease and “gay acts” would be completely forbidden (so, basically, anyone assuming a “non-regular sexual orientation” would be arrested and be put in the Description: http://thecelebritycafe.com/sites/default/files/images/INFphoto_3255780.JPGHall of SHAME).
This sad but heroic story was marvelously brought to the screens by Morten Tyldum (a Norwich 48-year old blonde dude with a creepy face, but a genius mind), who invited Benedict Cumberbatch (aka Sexiest Man Alive, in 2014, voted by People Magazine and António) to be Alan Turing in The Imitation Game.
In the movie, the story is not linear, which means it doesn’t follow a chronologic sequence, but once it would get weird if we describe the plot with the hundreds of flashbacks and flash-forwards seen in the movie, we are going to follow a chronological path:
In The Imitation Game we see Alan since he was young, being discriminated against on school by his mates for being “different”. He was already really clever and he would be the first to finish each Math’s exercise, but he didn’t made as many friends as the other kids of his school, he only had one, Christopher (the name of the decoder machine he built), who was his first love and would be the one talking with Alan in a secret code. The young Alan writes a message in that code meaning “I love you”, but when he went looking for his friend to give it to him, the school’s headmaster calls Alan and tells him that his friend has passed away suddenly from bovine tuberculosis. Description: https://s.yimg.com/cd/resizer/2.0/FIT_TO_WIDTH-w700/c80e3704978e6764c844d5d19d2e1e3b56a7fba5.jpg
When Turing grows up, his ability to solve puzzles is recognized and he is invited to join a cryptography team, at Bletchley Park. With such a hard childhood, the difficulty on making friends and socializing remained and when we see the “grown-up” Alan Turing here, we can see is difficulty on working in group. He manages to take control of the team and suddenly they are not trying to decipher messages, but to build a machine to do it, Christopher. By that time there were no women being cryptographers, but when Alan posts an ad to choose a new cryptographer, which happens to be Joan Clarke (starred by Keira Knightley, DAMN), a fact she had to hide from her parents, once that wasn’t a job for women...
Description: http://cdn.hitfix.com/photos/5794860/Benedict-Cumberbatch-in-The-Imitation-Game.jpgThe truth is that it was indirectly because of her that Alan had the idea that turned Christopher one of the best cryptographers so far and it gave the Allies the power to know every move of the German forces (Turing saved many lives).
The latest part of Alan’s life is shown as the darkest he lived, and the movie begins exactly in this part, in which he is being questioned by the police forces about the time he worked on Bletchley Park. He admits that he is gay, and the therapy to “cure that disease” starts: he doesn’t manage to handle it, and gets in a depression, which led into suicide.
Maybe it wasn’t hard for Benedict to portray such an unusual man, once he always does this kind of freakish role, but the truth is that he made an excellent job and we think he should have won the Oscar, but unfortunately, we are not the Academy (YET)…
For us, the movie was absolutely incredible and an absolute disdain and hatred towards this retrograde close-minded society. Even though we aren’t homosexuals (ok, António didn’t say anything to Rodrigo, but Rodrigo believes he is not…), we are completely against homophobia and we defend an open-minded community, free of prejudice.
Now let’s rate the movie! (Show some excitement, we may be extremely nice or extremely bad, which, even though would be incoherent of us, may be possible!) :D
In a rate between 0 and 11, we would have to give it a 9/11
Oh wait this was offensive! The scale is between 0 and 10, please, don’t hate us!
So, we give it a 9,4/10.

We hope you are happy with our return,
Big hug for the boys,
XOXO for ladies,

And Peace for everyone!

Another offer you can't refuse (unless you are gay, then yeah, you can refuse it [BUT YOU SHOULDN'T])

Hello guys , It has been while since out last post, what's going on with you, anything new?

This week our teacher told us to talk about a personality we think will be important  in twenty years from now.
Since our blog is about cinema and movies, and all that fun stuff, we thought that writing about an actor or actress would be the right thing to do.
So, an actress or actor that will still be famous, and about whom will be written biographies...
Emma Watson! (No teacher, not just because she's hot and was the first girl António ever considered atractive [for Rodrigo that girl was the first nurse he saw when he was born... A Ladies man since 1997!]) Emma Watson besides being Hermione Granger also does something that has an impact on people's lifes , for instance , she is one of the most well-know celebrities who talks about the freedom and equility between genders.
Watson also cooperated with companies such as "People Tree" which makes kind of eco-clothes, so she also concerns about the environment, (perfect woman we know...) but not only. Emma was invited to pose for a plastic artist, called Mark Demsteader who wanted to make a collection of paintings drawn with several different techniques, and Watson required that 10% of the proffits should be donated to an institution that wants to help poor girls in Africa to have access to education, clothes and books... So as you can see Emma will not only be remembered as the first hot women every teenager nowadays saw, but also as someone who fought against inequality between genders, fought to make this world a "greener" place, and also fought to help children who need it.
Probably, in twenty years from now, she will not be hot as she is today, but it doesn't matter, 'cause we will also be much older, and then we will say "women are like wine, the older the better", and 5 minutes later we will be making out with a granny!
So, yeah, sorry for shocking you...
See ya!

An offer you can't refuse

Hey guys, how are you since our last post? Still soaked? Don’t worry; we won’t go down the drain, unless you don’t do what we ask… An irrefutable offer, right?
This week’s theme was Fallen Angels and after hours of reflection and three mojitos, we reached a decision: The Godfather (yeah, we really thought about cutting the “fallen” part and talk about the Victoria Secret's Angels, but Sara Sampaio said she wouldn’t give us an interview, so we just forgot it, and cried a lot).

Before you ask us why the hell is The Godfather related to the metaphor of The Fallen Angel, we just want to give you a little kind of synopsis:
This incredible old movie (it’s from 1972), based on Mario Puzo’s books and directed by Francis Ford Coppola (which surely is not the reason for having his daughter, Sofia Coppola, acting on the third movie, yeah, SURELY…), tells the story of the Corleone’s, a family leaded by the one the world calls The Godfather (aka The Don or just Vito for his friends), Don Vito Corleone (the ex-Vito Andolini – we know, it seems a good name for a pizzeria, but it’s probably already taken).
First of all, this guy, Vito, had a really sad youth: all of his family was killed by the local mafia, in their homeland, Italy, when he was young, and he was forced to leave the country – he went to the US – and to change is identity – he changed his name for Vito Corleone (actually the name of the village in which he was born) – and he starts stealing and delivering “stuff” for a criminal web – ok, it was just one guy (we thought it would sound better if it was a big web)… but a really thug one!
So, one day, like every young man, he gets tired of his boss and decides to shoot him in the middle of the street during a parade (correction: every young Italian), and starts making favors for people (if there is someone like him in your neighborhood stay away from him, he will demand you pay him another favor, probably you will be asked to kill someone; so, yeah, run for your life) and expanding his criminal web. Everybody loves him and he gets the nickname of The Godfather. He marries an Italian immigrant called Carmela, in 1914, and they have 3 boys and 1 girl: Sonny (a really thug, but too angry man, yeah, SONNY ISN’T THE GIRL!), Fredo (a thin and weak dude), Michael (who fought in the World War II and turns to be the clever one) and Connie (the one that has no access to the decisions of the family). Their “family business” grows and, suddenly, his family turns one of the five most important families of the New York Mafia (cool name for a band)!
Like bad boys use to say “this city is too small for you and me” (then they start beating the small kid), but in this case there are 5 families fighting for the command of New York. The Corleone’s grow so much that they can’t grow anymore, the other families get angry and the war starts:
The Don gets shot 5 times in his back! Inexplicably he survives… He goes to the hospital, but there are 2 attempts to kill him (intercepted by his younger son, Michael, considered by the other families a civilian) and he gets his jaw broken by a corrupt cop (ok this is not relevant for the synopsis, but still shows the Fall of the Angel, in this case, the Fall of the Don – I told you it had something to do with fallen angels!). The war keeps going on, vendetta after vendetta, Sonny gets ambushed on the road, in a toll (and dies – sorry for the SPOILER!), Michael goes to Sicilia to be safe (after killing the corrupt cop).

After a long time, Michael comes back to the US and marries his old girlfriend, Kay Adams. Vito leaves the command of the family and Michael takes his position on the Family Business (he promises Kay he would make everything legal in 5 years). Vito dies (WE TOLD YOU – THE FALLEN ANGEL), the family begins to fall and the story goes on… but we are almost reaching the end, so we won’t spoil you anymore! The movie is absolutely amazing and we hope you get the chance to see it! Everything in it is great: the soundtrack by Nino Rota, the direction and the production, the effects (for the year in which it was made), the acting, the argument (I read 5 books written by Mario Puzo, so yeah I love him (SIG Rodrigo))!
For us, it deserves a really consistent 9 (or if you want to, a 9,0000000001). It is very interesting and the 3 Oscars it received are totally justified.
We hope you enjoyed this post, and that you keep on following our blog!

P.S: If you don’t you might wake up with your horse’s head laying on your bed with a lot of blood around. We told you, an irrefutable offer…

What if New York got wrecked by a TSUNAMI?

Hey guys, what's going on? Today, your favourite guys, here at The Popcorner, bring you another kind/attempt of a film review!

Before you start wondering what's the movie that we are going to be speaking of, we would like to tell you what our theme was: WAVES!

Yeah, there are a lot of things we could do about waves, such as talking about the waves of globalization, the waves of industrialization, or even the waves of zombies (which would be a terrible excuse to talk about World War Z), but we decided to go to its literal meaning (We know, right? Awful idea! Smells like a bad mark coming...), so we decided to write you about a movie that is actually related to waves.

No, it isn't Happy Feet or Surf's Up (even though the baby penguins are cute as hell!), because the main characters are horrible and both of us hate both of the movies... And it isn't either about The Life of Pi, 'cause, even though it is a good movie, we couldn't write a whole post about a guy in a boat (sorry for the discrimination against you, zebra, koala and Mr. Tiger! And we are also sorry for making you, the reader, watch it all again to find a koala!)... So...

We decided to write about The Day After Tomorrow, a movie in which NYC gets wrecked by a huge TSUNAMI* (yeah, we know that a Tsunami is already huge, otherwise it would only be a big wave, but we decided to give it some emphasis!)!

In the beginning of the movie Jack Hall, the father of the main character, Sam Hall, is at an expedition in Antarctica with his two partners. Together they find evidences that global warming is changing the climate as we are used to see it! This theory is disapproved by the vice-president of the US, who considers him crazy, although another scientist believes in Jack, and starts to study the exact same subject, and finally concluding that he was right (yeah, after all, Jack isn’t nuts!). When he decides to contact Jack, they discuss their studies and just discover that a new Ice age may be upon them.
At the same time, violent storms all around the world are causing a massive destruction, with tornados and super-hurricanes (yes, it looks like Speedy Gonzalez has been running in circles all over Earth!), with temperatures so close that freezes anything it comes in contact with (although that wouldn’t be a problem for us, ‘cause we are hot as hell!). In Manhattan, where Sam (not Frodo’s friend) is, the rain hasn’t stopped for three days, causing floods.
As the storm gets worse a massive giant super huge WAVE (yes, don’t forget this post is about waves…) hits the island of Manhattan, forcing Sam and his friends (yes, it is possible for a son of a scientist to have friends) to take refuge in the New York Public Library, where they just stay ‘till the end of the movie (with a dog!).
As the movie goes by, we start to notice that Sam has a little big crush on his friend, Laura (he just keeps staring at her like a freak!), who is sheltered with him in the library, and in the end we kind of see that she’s also into him (only in movies…).
In the middle of the movie, when NYC is the eye of the storm, Sam and a few group of people are the only ones who stood at the library, saved from the low temperatures. When the eye is upon New York, Sam’s dad gets there, and has to hide, to avoid being frozen. Jack is going to get his son, once when Sam got to the library (in the beginning of the movie) he calls his parents and, as a heroic father, Jack promises Sam that he would get him (so, our guy, Jack not only isn’t crazy, as he is also an hero! Keep surprising us, Jack!).

SPOILER ALERT (STOP READING THIS IF YOU HAVEN’T HAD THE CHANCE TO WATCH THE MOVIE!!!!): After this, a rescue-team goes to rescue them and realizes that there were more survivors, just standing in the roofs of the sky-scrapers, waiting to be saved too. From this experience, the human kind found out that they need to stop polluting the environment and start cooperating with one another to guarantee the world’s sustainability.

So, now we can tell you our opinion: we loved this movie (otherwise we wouldn't choose it) and we hope we never get the chance to experiment this in real life (thanks a lot for creating computer games, God!). In a scale from 0 to 10, we would certainly give this a 8,376543210!

We hope you've enjoyed this post and that you keep following us, and please feel free to tells us what you would do if such an harmful catastrophe destroyed your town (we are sorry if you ever experiencied this!)

*we are not talking about the track of DVBBS and Borgeous, you EDM lovers! (For those who didn't understand this: "EDM" = Electronic Dance Music; and "DVBBS & Borgeous - Tsunami" = http://youtu.be/I41CX0RdmPQ )

Text that does actually have nothing to do with our blog.

Hey guys, how are you, nice? Good! :D
So, before we start this post that, honestly, has nothing to do with our blog, we want to wish you a Happy New Year and we hope you had nice Christmas Holidays, if you didn't have holidays at all, we are sorry to hear that! And we are also sorry for not writing a lot in the last few weeks, but we got an interruption of our classes, do you really think we would spend it on a blog? We had many more things to do… Such as sleeping, eating, watching TV, stalking you on Facebook (oh, you weren’t supposed to know this…), gaming, gambling (yeah, I almost lost my home for a koala… but he was caught cheating, so never mind...) or even be looking for hours to an empty wall.
Moving on, the last classes of the 1st term were given to our class, to present group project works about specific and different themes, our, for instance, was MTV and its influence on globalization, and our teacher told us we had to choose one of the assignments presented by our classmates, the one we think it had the best presentation and content, and talk about it in our blog.
We just hated them all (kidding), but we chose the assignment on Dracula, once it was, for us, the best oral presentation. Actually it was presented by five girls (Hey girls, we swear we are not doing this to get your attention!), and that might be an unconscious reason for our choice. At least it wasn’t boring like many others (sorry guys, you can do better next time). We think this was the best one, not only because all the group members knew the entire presentation, all the themes discussed, who says which part, which made them able to succor one another, but also because of the easiness with which they spoke to us, the way they spoke was easily understandable, and they weren’t boring at all in the way they exposed their themes, although sometimes the themes didn’t help, for instance who the hell cares about what’s good and evil about Dracula? At least we don’t… And that’s why we chose MTV.
But nothing is perfect, and so wasn’t their presentation: in fact, sometimes they got really nervous and some members were reading their papers too much (we won’t say any names… it’s a kind of a “you-know-who”, but the difference is that all of them actually have noses and we don’t picture them as “the Dark Ladies”, but if they are we don’t want to find it by ourselves…). Other negative aspect of their presentation was the fact that it wasn’t that well distributed: for instance, Maria was the one who spoke the least of her group… Anyway, we won’t focus on any other negative aspect, once we don’t want to suffer from the anger of the possible Dark Ladies…
Nonetheless, in spite of all of this, it managed to be the best one (we are just saying this because we couldn’t choose our own… but yeah, thank you teacher for not letting us be narcissist, for not letting us show our true essence… L) and we want to congratulate them for their effort: Congratulations, girls! Oh, and don’t forget we are still single…

Now we have to say good bye (this is getting to big for a text about school projects…), so, yeah, Good Bye!!! :D

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

Hello fellows, here we are once again and this time we’ll be talking about the HOBBIT (we know, guess what? WE LOVE IT TOO!).

OK, before you start asking yourself “Why Hobbit?”, this week we had two options, OK three, but one was instantly put aside, the other option, besides The Hobbit, was Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, although we also like Harry Potter, we are major fans of Tolkien’s work, and so we decided to write about the first movie (The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey). António was with high expectations about this movie, since he watched The Lord of the Rings (LOTR) trilogy, and for him, it went as expected, but he keeps thinking that LOTR is so much better. For Rodrigo, it was the first time that he was watching a film adaptation of a Tolkien's masterpiece, after watching it and thinking "OMG what was I missing?" he saw the whole LOTR trilogy two days later!

OK, before we start describing the movie, please press play on this video:

Done? So, here we go..

Once upon a time, there was a guy, white as snow, weak as a chicken waiting to go to the aviary, and small as a 5 year-old kid. His name was Bilbo Baggins, and he was a Hobbit! Before you start wondering "what the hell is a Hobbit" and start looking for it on wikipedia, I will tell you: it's a kind of a small human specie that lives in The Shire, a colourful place where everybody smiles, but nothing happens. Ok that's all I can tell you.

So, let's go back to the narrative... This guy, Bilbo, is invited by a giant wizard, Gandalf, the Grey, to go on an adventure with him and a group of dwarves (Oin, Gloin, Bombur, Bifur, Bofur, Ori, Nori, Fili, Kili, Balin, Dwalin and Dori [the guys in the picture above]), leaded by Thorin Oakenshield (another dwarf), son of Thrain, son of Thror, from the line of Durin, the next king under the mountain (yes, António did his homework). The purpose of their adventure was to reclaim Erebor and to recover the dwarves’ long-forgotten gold, a shinny treasure that was being safe kept by Smaug, the Terrible (a dragon that took over the city of Erebor, in the Lonely Mountain, and stole the dwarves’ gold, killing many dwarves and, even worst than that, destroying a kid's toy [SHAME ON YOU, SMAUG!]).

During this adventure, returning to Bag End, his home, was something that crossed Bilbo's mind several times, but after they found “Sting” (his sword) he kind of gain some courage that made him keep going, no matter how hard and dangerous it got. It is in this film that we see Bilbo finding The One ring (the one forged by Sauron in the fires of Mount Doom) that so far belonged to Gollum. After he found it he was able to become invisible and run away from Gollum and from the Goblins’ cave.
When he finds this ring, he gets the chance to know a creepy but cutie weird "creature", Smeagol, basically, a guy that talks with himself (there was no psychologist in Middle-Earth...), and that has a creepy face:

We wont tell you anything more about the plot, otherwise you would not get curious to watch the movie, and that would be shameful!!!!

So, now here it comes our opinion (noooo, don't close the blog!!!):
In our sincere, opinion, this movie is amazing! Great plot, great action scenes, great music, great EVERYTHING (except their size, don't forget that most of them are dwarves...)! But once we can only give a 10 to the LOTR trilogy, we are very sad to tell you that we gave this super nice movie a shameful 9,9! :(
Before we finish this kind of a review, we want to congratulate Peter Jackson for another great job (yeah, we are talking about the first Hobbit, obviously!), it was a great choice of actors, and even with some modifications to the book, he managed to do a great adaptation of it!
This is pretty much our opinion, maybe if Rodrigo had given António the opportunity to write even more, you would probably be finishing the lecture of this super well written text (or not) with your grandchildren saying "Happy 120th Birthday!" (assuming that you are 10 now).

See you later, you hater! :D
