Hello guys!! Another week, and
here we are again, we’re sad to say that our third term is coming to an end…
But, don’t start crying! Although we were kind of forced to create a blog, we
really enjoyed writing it… Therefore, there might be a possibility of not ending with this blog.
Moving on, this isn’t the last
post, so cheer up mates. Today’s post will finally be about one of Antonio’s
favourite movies, INCEPTION!!!! Yeah, Inception… How to start…
Antonio already saw this movie like a thousand
times, and although Rodrigo never saw it, we came to an agreement, and here it
is, our final choice.
This film starts in Cobb’s mind,
that’s right, in his mind!! Yap, this film is about dreams, and the sharing of
those. Cobb [our main character, played by a very famous and prizewinning
actor, Leonardo DiCaprio, ladies, calm down!] used to work for a company where he had to make
industrial espionage through dreams. Although you can’t really die while in a
dream, you can still feel all the pain.
We find our main character and
his partner, Arthur (but not Conan Doyle), spying on Saito, a powerful Japanese businessman and despite
the skill that Cobb and Arthur have in dream sharing, Saito soon finds out that
he’s in a dream and they fail what they wanted to do. After that they plan how
to run away from Cobol Engineering, the company that ordered the extraction [stealing
stuff in the dream]. But Saito finds them and explains that it was all a test
and he wants to hire both Cobb and a team Cobb builds to make a job for him. Although
Cobb strongly denies any possibility of accepting the job, Saito persuades him
(Cobb is considered guilty on his wife’s death, and he can’t see his children
again) by saying he can make Cobb see his children again.
All of this story is centered in Robert
Fischer’s mind, because Cobb’s team wants to change his opinion about his
father, Maurice Fischer, and implement the idea that he wants to dissolve his
father’s empire, when Maurice dies. So that Saito can have the monopoly of
energy commercialization. At first they thought that inception was impossible,
but Cobb sadly proves them that it is possible, because he had already done it,
to Mal… His wife… [This guy looks like a maniac that tests on his loved ones,
just for the sake of it. Girls run while you can, this is not "your" Leonardo.]
When they enter in Fischer’s mind, they are needed to go deeper, because when you want to make an inception you need
to have at least 3 layers of dreams, a dream within a dream, within a dream… I
hope this sounds as awesome for you as it sounds for me. In the first layer
they found that Fischer has had some training against extractors, and his subconscious
is prepared to defend him. Therefore they put everyone in a van, drove by
Yusuf, their chemist, the worst driver in History… And in that van they go to
another layer, this time it’s Arthur’s dream, they end up in a hotel, where
they try a strategy that consists on turning the person against his own
subconscious. Soon they understand that 2 layers aren’t enough, and go to
another one, this time Eames’ dream [Eames is the forger that plays a familiar
face recognized by Fischer, to make him say secrets and stuff he would only say
to familiar people… So, if you ever dream about your father DON’T TELL HIM WHERE
YOU KEEP THOSE MAGAZINES HIDDEN] in a fortress where they think they will find
the answer that will make Fischer dissolve his future empire.
Dreams only end, or when the time
ends, or when you feel like falling or dying, that has of “kick” and through
the three layers of dreams, they synchronized a kick, that will make them wake
up from each dream, to another one, until they get to Yusuf’s van again, in the
first layer, the first kick is in the hotel where Arthur blows up stuff and
makes them wake up in the third layer, and the other one is when Yusuf drives
off of a bridge and simulates falling, that makes them wake up from Arthur’s
dream. Although this “worked out well” Cobb, Ariadne, Saito and Fischer end up
in the limbo, soon Ariadne and Fischer get back on the third layer at the time
of the kick, and Cobb and Saito are left in the limbo, where they only meet
again a lot of years after, as we can see in the beginning of the film!! [That’s
why this is so awesome, the beginning is already the limbo, it makes Antonio
think if this movie is all a dream of Cobb, while in the limbo, or if it ends
on a dream and they never get back]
Cobb and Saito finally leave the
limbo and Cobb can see his children again, this all happened because Cobb
planted the idea that the world he and Mal were living in wasn’t real in Mal’s mind,
so when they come back to reality, she still thinks she’s in a dream, and kills
herself, seeing this as the only way of seeing their “true children” again.
Although I really like this film
(Antonio talking) I can’t decide if it ends on reality or in a dream, but I bet
on a dream, not only because the totem that Cobb uses to prove himself he’s in
the real world doesn’t give us a straight answer in the end, but also because
during all this time, his children didn’t age a day, and that’s a bit odd, and
makes us think, if we are not in a dream of Cobb since the beginning of the
film…
I gave it a score of
9,898904309234, in scale from 0 to 10, obviously it is one of my favourite
movies.
This time we leave you guys with
a quote from the movie that Antonio truly loves:
You're waiting for a train, a
train that will take you far away. You know where you hope this train will take
you, but you don't know for sure. But it doesn't matter. Because we’ll be
together!
